Does anyone remember a forerunner of lego - a building brick set consisting of metal rods and bricks?

These were around in the early 60`s I think. They were red and white bricks, which slid down on to metal rods you inserted on a green base board. Proper house building ! I remember there were green bay windows and red and green doors. Think they were called beko or baco bricks? Great toy but very dangerous for young kids !
Does anyone remember what they were called so I can go on ebay and find some !!
